Since 2022, all motorcycles above 125cc are required to undergo regular inspections in Portugal.

1. When to inspect
- First inspection: 5 years after registration.
- After that: every 2 years.
Example:
If your bike was registered in 2020 → first inspection in 2025, then every two years after that.
2. What is checked
Inspectors verify over 50 different points, including:

- Frame number, license plate, documents
💡 Electrical system
- Headlights, indicators, brake lights, horn
🛞 Steering, suspension, brakes
- Bearings, forks, shock absorbers
- Brake efficiency test
🛢️ Engine and exhaust
- Leaks, emissions, noise levels
⚙️ Tyres and wheels
- Tread depth, tyre wear, wheel condition
🪛 Body and safety equipment
- Mirrors, seat, number plate, side stands
3. Inspection results
Possible outcomes:
- ✅ Approved – roadworthy
- ⚠️ Minor defects – no reinspection needed
- ❌ Rejected – must repair and recheck within 30 days
4. Cost
The average price for a motorcycle inspection in Portugal is around €13.30.
